Brenda Howard — The 'Mother of Pride' Organises First Pride March

Brenda Howard, a bisexual activist from New York, was the driving force behind organising the first Gay Pride march — the Christopher Street Liberation Day March — on the first anniversary of the Stonewall riots. Howard is credited with the idea of extending a single day of commemoration into a full week of events, creating the concept of 'Pride Week' that would eventually evolve into the month-long Pride celebrations held worldwide today.
