Hannah Snell — Female Soldier Reveals Her Identity

Hannah Snell publicly revealed that she had served for nearly five years in the British Royal Marines disguised as a man under the name 'James Gray.' She had fought at the Battle of Pondicherry in India, been wounded eleven times, and had a musket ball surgically removed from her groin without revealing her sex. After revealing her identity, she successfully petitioned for a military pension from the Royal Hospital Chelsea and became a celebrity, performing on stage in her military uniform.
