British Quakers First UK Religious Body to Approve Same-Sex Marriage

At their Yearly Meeting, British Quakers (Religious Society of Friends) became the first religious body in Britain to formally approve same-sex marriage, affirming marriage as a contract between two people and God regardless of gender. They committed to campaigning for legal change. Following the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013, Quaker same-sex weddings began in March 2014.
