Freddie Mercury — Queen's Legendary Frontman Dies of AIDS

Freddie Mercury, lead vocalist of the rock band Queen, died of bronchial pneumonia resulting from AIDS at his home in Kensington, London. He was 45. Born Farrokh Bulsara in Zanzibar to Parsi-Indian parents, Mercury became one of the greatest rock performers of all time. His four-octave vocal range, theatrical showmanship, and songwriting genius produced anthems including Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are the Champions, Somebody to Love, and Don't Stop Me Now. Mercury was bisexual but intensely private about his personal life, revealing his AIDS diagnosis only the day before his death. His long-term partner Jim Hutton was by his side.
