Keith Haring — Pop Artist and AIDS Activist Dies at 31

Keith Haring, the American pop artist and activist, died of AIDS-related complications in New York City at the age of 31. Haring's iconic graffiti-inspired art — radiant babies, barking dogs, dancing figures — emerged from New York's subway stations and club scene in the early 1980s to achieve global recognition. Openly gay throughout his career, Haring used his art to advocate for AIDS awareness, safe sex, and LGBTQ+ rights. He established the Keith Haring Foundation in 1989 to support AIDS organisations and children's programmes. His Crack is Wack mural and his AIDS awareness posters remain some of the most recognisable public art of the twentieth century.
