Ghana Parliament Passes Sweeping Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill

Ghana's Parliament approved the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill with bipartisan support, which would criminalise LGBTQ+ identity and advocacy. Ghana's Finance Ministry warned the bill could jeopardise $3.8 billion in World Bank funding. President Akufo-Addo declined to sign pending Supreme Court review, and the bill lapsed when the new parliament took office in January 2025.
