In 1983, Guernsey decriminalised consensual homosexual acts between adults, extending legal reform to the Crown Dependencies. In the same year, Channel 4 broadcast 'One in Five' on New Year's Day, a one-off programme the channel billed as the first to show "what it means to be positively gay".
