Iceland Passes Gender Autonomy Act with Non-Binary Recognition

Iceland's Gender Autonomy Act provided every person aged 15 and over the right to change their gender registration through administrative self-identification without medical requirements. The Act introduced the 'X' gender marker alongside male and female, and protects intersex children's right to physical integrity. Children under 15 may change their registration with parental assistance.

Iceland's inclusion of non-binary recognition and its low age threshold of 15 made it one of the most progressive gender autonomy laws in the world.
