New Zealand Bans Conversion Practices with Near-Unanimous Vote

New Zealand's parliament passed the Conversion Practices Prohibition Legislation Act with 112 votes to 8, making it a criminal offence to perform conversion practices on anyone under 18 (up to 3 years' imprisonment) and on anyone where it causes serious harm (up to 5 years). The bill received a record 107,000 public submissions and protects free expression of opinion and religious belief not intended to change someone's identity.
