Court of Arbitration for Sport Upholds Testosterone Regulations Against Caster Semenya

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled 2-1 against double Olympic 800m champion Caster Semenya, upholding regulations requiring athletes with differences of sex development (DSD) to lower their testosterone levels to compete in events from 400m to the mile. The panel acknowledged the regulations were discriminatory but deemed them 'necessary and proportionate'. Semenya took her case to the European Court of Human Rights, which ruled in her favour in July 2023.
