First Public Intersex Demonstration

Intersex activists Morgan Holmes and Max Beck of the Intersex Society of North America protested outside the American Academy of Pediatrics conference in Boston, carrying signs reading 'Hermaphrodites With Attitude' and denouncing non-consensual genital surgeries on intersex infants. This date was later commemorated as Intersex Awareness Day, formally established by Betsy Driver in 2004.
