First Puberty Blocker Prescribed for Gender Dysphoria

In the late 1980s, clinicians at the VU Medical Center in Amsterdam prescribed the GnRH agonist triptorelin to a young patient experiencing gender dysphoria, marking the first known clinical use of puberty blockers for this purpose. The pioneering case, documented by Peggy Cohen-Kettenis and Stephanie van Goozen in a 1998 case report, laid the groundwork for what would become the influential Dutch Protocol for treating adolescent gender dysphoria.
