In 1984, Guernsey decriminalised consensual homosexual acts between adults, extending legal reform to the Crown Dependencies. In the same year, Channel 4 aired 'One in Five', the UK's first national television series focusing on lesbian and gay life.

Chris Smith Comes Out & Bisexual Groups Formed

Chris Smith became the first openly gay MP when he came out on Radio 4 in 1984. In the same year, the National Bisexual Conference was launched and the Edinburgh Bisexual Group was formed, together marking a significant expansion in political representation and visibility for both gay and bisexual communities in Britain.
