Florida Governor Signs 'Don't Say Gay' Bill

Governor Ron DeSantis signed the Parental Rights in Education Act (HB 1557), prohibiting classroom instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity in kindergarten through third grade. In May 2023, DeSantis expanded the restrictions through all grades and signed bills banning gender-affirming care for minors and restricting drag performances. The law became a rallying point for both LGBTQ+ advocacy and conservative politics nationwide.
