Norway Declares Youth Gender Treatments Experimental
Norway's independent Healthcare Investigation Board (UKOM) published its report declaring the use of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries for young people to be experimental treatments with an insufficient evidence base. UKOM warned of potential harms including effects on cognitive development and fertility, recommending that all such treatments be restricted to approved clinical trials only.
Impact & Significance
Added Norway to the growing list of Nordic countries reassessing youth gender medicine, directly leading to Norway's formal reclassification of these treatments as experimental in 2024.
