Norway Formally Classifies Youth Puberty Blockers as Experimental

Health International Trans

The medical directors of Norway's four regional health authorities determined that puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for gender-distressed minors constitute experimental treatments and must be restricted to clinical trials only. Under the new policy, these treatments would no longer be available as routine interventions from specialist services, private providers, or family doctors.

Impact & Significance

Norway's formal reclassification added further weight to the European shift away from routine puberty blocker prescribing, aligning with policies already adopted by Finland, Sweden, and Denmark.
