UK Government Launches Largest Ever National LGBT Survey
The Government Equalities Office launched an unprecedented national survey of LGBT people across the UK. Over 108,000 people responded, making it the largest LGBT survey ever conducted anywhere in the world. Results published in July 2018 found that 5% of respondents had been offered conversion therapy and 2% had undergone it, with trans respondents almost twice as likely to have experienced it. These findings directly led to the 2018 LGBT Action Plan and the first government promise to ban conversion therapy.
Impact & Significance
Provided the evidence base that prompted the UK Government's first formal commitment to ban conversion therapy, launching a process that would take over seven years of delays and broken promises.
