Argentina Passes World's First Gender Self-Identification Law

Argentina enacted the Gender Identity Law (Ley de Identidad de Genero), becoming the first country in the world to allow legal gender change through self-declaration alone. Any person over 18 can change their name, image, and gender on official documents through a free administrative process without medical diagnosis, surgery, hormone therapy, or judicial approval. The law also mandates that all gender-affirming healthcare be covered by both public and private health systems.
